Some of my favorite sessions don't involve mountain views, golden fields, or elaborate styling.

Sometimes, they're simply spent barefoot on a bed, laughing until your cheeks hurt.

When Mar and James invited me into their Redondo Beach home for their maternity session, I knew it was going to be something special. They wanted photos that felt like them—nothing overly posed, no pressure to perform, just a quiet afternoon documenting the season before life changes in the very best way.

Spoiler alert: we laughed...a lot.

From stealing kisses between conversations to giggling over the tiniest moments, their session unfolded naturally. It felt less like taking photos and more like hanging out with two people who are genuinely excited to become parents.

And honestly? Those are always my favorite sessions.

Why I Love In-Home Maternity Sessions

There's something incredibly meaningful about documenting this chapter where your story is already unfolding. The bed where you've spent lazy Saturday mornings together. The room that's about to become a nursery. The sunlight that pours through your windows every afternoon. Even the family dog insisting on being part of every photo (which I 100000% support).

Years from now, these images won't just remind you what your baby bump looked like. They'll remind you of the home your little one came home to and all the little details that made this season yours.

The Best Moments Are Never Planned

Some of my favorite images from this session happened in between the poses.

  • Mar throwing her head back laughing.
  • James looking at her like he already couldn't believe how lucky he was.
  • The quiet way they both rested their hands on their baby's bump.
  • Their sweet pup casually stealing the spotlight without even trying.

Those unscripted moments are the ones that always end up meaning the most. They tell the story far better than perfectly posed smiles ever could.

You Don't Need a Picture-Perfect Home

People alway say, "I love in-home sessions, but my house isn't magazine-worthy."

Here's the secret...most homes aren't and nor should they be.

Beautiful photographs come from beautiful moments—not expensive furniture.Natural light, genuine connection, and a space that already feels like home will always matter more than perfect decor.

What Should You Wear for an In-Home Maternity Session?

Mar kept things beautifully simple with neutral loungewear layered with a denim button-down, while James wore a cozy knit sweater and comfortable pants.

Choosing outfits you already feel like yourself in helps your photos feel timeless. Soft neutrals, textured fabrics, and comfortable pieces that allow movement photograph beautifully in natural light and keep the focus on your connection rather than your clothing.

Thinking About an In-Home Maternity Session?

If you're expecting and want photos that feel relaxed, intimate, and true to this season of life, an in-home maternity session might be exactly what you're looking for.

Wherever you call home,  I'd love to help document your story in a way that feels effortless and authentic.

The goal isn't perfect photos; it's preserving the feeling of this chapter before it becomes one you'll only remember through stories.
